Today, the three of us visited Uncle’s grave up in Milpitas, CA. I had to get an America flag from the office; since there was no flag at the grave fro Uncle. If the grave was a Veteran’s Marker, either granite or bronze (with a distinct, raised border on top), then the `boy’s scouts` could put the flag at the top middle of the fallen on and into the ground below, which is mostly grass, of course.
When I returned with the flag, Maw and Paw had finished putting the flowers into vase. Water was added. And Bob Fields came by to check if we needed assistance. I inquired how do I know if Uncle could get a flag every year on Memorial’s Day. He said to let the office know but it’s no guarantee because the scouts may overlook the veteran without the government issued verions.
He showed us the two versions of Veteran’s Markers. He flicked his tongue several times before, during and after the conversation. He coughed after pointing out the granite marker, which as about ten or so at the burial place so far. He was tall, white and wore a lobster-red face, along with shades like a spook. But he is a nice chap altogether.
