Christmas “Parole” Star (Inverted!)
Speaking of “the devil”, my recent photo shows an upside-down star/pentagram of around one dozen “parole” (a Filipino Christmas decoration representing the Star of Bethlehem) hanging inside our parish. There are seven larger ones hanging from the large/ceiling/black/iron lights.
This inverted display is considered safer for when real candles are inserted inside. This allows the flame/heat to escape upwards instead of burning the paper when hung upright.
Instead of two streamers coming out like two booster rockets, we get only one streamer and that’s cheaper for the parish. The innocence of the Filipino people would never think an inverted star is evil.
Paw’s name appeared in the weekly bulletin in recognition of the donation. Usually, out of respect, both names of my parents are shown but I guess there was not enough space available.
